Lunch at Hua San Court, Hui Sing

It is actually a shame that I've stayed at Hui Sing for 28 years and I've never been to this coffee shop! So, on one morning where it is drizzling, I asked my dad to go out Hui Sing for lunch.

While waiting for my dad to visit his favourite shop (lottery shop, what else!), I walked around and saw a stall selling my old time favourite - Claypot mee.

The best claypot mee that I've tried is 'mee in pot' at Hong Kong Noodles, Wisma Saberkas. I've tried a few stall around Kuching but none is of it comparable to the one in Hong Kong Noodles. The price there is reasonable too, compared with other place.

Since I'm the one that is more fussy with food, my dad just let me decide where to had lunch. I ordered seafood claypot mee while my dad ordered 'pak lo' pork rice.

The claypot mee is superb! With some wine in the soup, it totally change the whole taste of the dish. The soup taste a little bit sour and sweet. The prawn and fish is very fresh too. The mee is nice too. Anyway, the portion is actually too much for me and I shared some to my dad. By adding one egg into the dish, the whole claypot mee is comparable to Hong Kong Noodles.

As for the 'pak lo' pork rice, it's very nice as well. The freshness and the smell of the pork slice can make me drool (in fact I'm drooling while posting this up).


Oh gosh, how can I just taste the food here although I've live here for ages? I should have come here earlier! This is indeed what makes Kuching the eatery fun place!

Last Sunday is BF day of signing the "Book of Life" (I think that's what they call it). From the time table list, it is known as the "First Confession" day... Well, I translate directly the meaning since it's in BM. Hehehe... We arrived there at around 9am. Not many people there that time but there are people setting up stall to sell some food after the church service. BF told me that he had not had any breakfast yet and I nag him. Whahahaha! I had to sit separately from BF and dad since I'm not the godfather. Church service starts at 9.30pm. While waiting for the mass, I took pictures all around the church . Are they dreaming?? Cozy Cafe, Jalan Song

Feeling hungry for something different on lunch time? Another place you can think of will be this restaurant - The Cozy Cafe. It is opposite One TJ with a black signboard. The environment is indeed cozy and warmth. Taste wise not bad but I can say that the service is a little weird. We order tea and they only permitted to give us 2 cup. Hhmmmm, I thought that we can just ask them to refill the pot wit hot water and share the tea amongst us. Guess this is how they earn more - limiting the number of sharing per tea pot. Oh well, got to just follow their rules. And this is what we ordered - sharing portion between a few of us. After all, ladies are small eaters. 'Ma Li Chai'/'Mani Chai', also known as Cangkuk Manis

While googling for news about 'malichai', it turns out that I hardly get anything that I am looking for, so this triggers me to write something about this local vegetables that I believe, can only be found in Sarawak. 'Mali chai' is easily planted and grow quite fast as well. In fact, this is the only vegetables that I planted and it didn't fail on me! With its stick, just plant it on the ground and leave the rain and sun to takes care of the rest. Hahaha... 'Mali chai' is a word in hokkien that mostly use in Kuching. 'Chai' means vegetables. Hakka people called it 'su choi'. Well, this vege doesn't seems to have an English name. If we are to translate from BM to English, it definitely sounds weird - Sweet Hook.
