Green Starts At Home

Image
What do we knows about green environment? Most of us just know that we should recycle our 'rubbish' as part of our contribution to save mother nature. Isn't it much better if we can contribute some, not only in term of recycling? Whenever I'm feeling moody, looking at a green scenery would calm my mind and gives me more strength. If we are at big cities, we can hardly see greens around us. If we have a garden at our house, why not do some gardening, beautifying the garden instad of doing some serious renovations to elimate those empty space? Gardening not only contributes to the mother nature but also to ourselves. If we planted vegetables or fruits at our garden, it is actually one of the cost cutting that we can do to our pocket. How much would a kilo of papaya cost you? But if you have your own papaya tree, you can just get some fresh papaya whenever you want at your own garden! Papaya - fresh from the garden Its going to cost you at least RM10 for a...

My Blog Is Carbon Neutral

Image
Has you done anything in helping mother Earth to stay healthy? Everyone should take some action in helping out the mother nature, be it via blog or personally. Recently, I read a blog about my blog is carbon neutral. Do you ever had any idea how to make your blog carbon neutral? In todays world, everything that we do will contribute into damaging this mother nature. As a blogger, we can help a little by spreading the news of the little effort of saving the nature. We can start by spreading the news about Arbor Day Foundation. This foundation would plan a tree for each blog domain that wrotes about them. Isn't this great? Not only that we can spread the news about this foundation, we too can get our blog domain hanging in a tree somewhere on this Earth! With each trees planted, we definitely helps the nature to survive! Remember that more trees = more oxygen and garden. In big countries, we hardly see any trees. This foundation is doing a very big favor to our Earth by volunteering ...

El Nino - Hopefully is Over

Image
Few weeks ago, we experience a very bad haze in Kuching here. Our dam is drying up and the government had even announce that we might run out of water in two weeks time. Some parts of Sarawak is already drying up. BF says that back in his hometown, the fishes are dying. His relative back home had called him and tell him. The stories of water shortage really scares me. My dad had filled up 2 tank of water just for emergency. Not only that, the water pressure seems abnormal. This actually makes me realize how important is water to our daily life. We need water to take shower, drink water, cooking and even for cleaning our car, clothing and plates. Luckily that last week, we started to have thunderstorm rain that not only clean our most polluted air but also filling our dam with water again. Thank God for the rain!! During the hazy time, I snap some photos of the red sun that covers Sarawak. Let's hope that haze is really over. During the el-nino, many got sick. H1N1 patients is in...

El NiNo - Water Shortage Soon?

~~~ Continuation from my previous posting of el-nino ~~~ Hey readers, read this news ! It seems like if everyone still wasting water, we will run out of water very soon. According to Bernama, the water at Gerugol Dam is depleting. The water shortage is affecting Sarikei, Simunjan and also Samarahan. Gosh, I'm working nearby to Samarahan area. I can't imagine how smelly would the toilet be if there is no water here! According to sources (NST) , the water level had dropped to a critical level. Gerugul dam in Sarikei can only serve water for 2 more weeks. In fact this is not the only worst news. Places such as Niah, Bekenu and Bakong rely only on water relief supplies. The government has taken action to starts water seeding beginning this Monday. I am consider lucky as I am in Kuching. Recently I realize that the flow of the pipe water is weird. I thought that it is nothing. I hope things won't gets worst. As I am typing this post, it sounds to me that outside is raining heavi...
El-Nino is Here
Image
Few days ago, there are news about El-Nino in Kuching. That time, Samarahan has been reported with the highest API reading. As I'm day dreaming in the car, I realize that the sun is reddish in color and everywhere seems to be smoky. The smell of the air is extremely bad. I could feel that I'm smelling something burnt off. When I breath out, the air is really hot and sandy. It is said that this will continues until Oct'09. Gosh, I'm hoping for rain now. This kind of weather really makes me lazy to do anything, not even going to aerobics. Anyway, cut the crap.. So here are some tips from worldofdidi in handling this coming of el-nino. Drink Plenty of Water With this kind of weather, we should drink plenty of waters. Eventhough drinking more waters makes us go washroom more often, it is better than risking our health. H1N1 is everywhere and the humidity is also killing us. Drinking more water won't cause any harm to out body. Turn on the lights while driving This morni...
Flyover vs Mother Nature?
Image
As I mention in my previous blog that there will be new flyover at the Jalan Song-Jalan Tun Jugah, the worker began their works already. It seems like they will widen the roads and make a lot of changes. I’m wondering how they can complete the work within 6 months time. Well, personally I felt heartache seeing all the trees is gone. I can see the Kamdar store way from the traffic light. Previously, I wouldn’t be able to see anything but trees. I’m wondering whether they would plant the trees when the flyover is completed. If I am to choose between the flyover and the trees, I would definitely choose the trees. During my UL, I usually went out with my dad on motorcycle. The other day, we pass that area to go to Premier 101. I can feel the heat of the sun. It is terrible!! It’s like I’ll get burnt by the sun. When the trees are still there, I feel windy and warm. Gosh, I miss the trees!!! Hopefully this project can really complete in 6 months time. The roundabout going to BDC seems to be...
World Ocean Day
Do you know that 8 th of June has been marked as the world ocean day? Some of us might think that thereisn’t need for all ocean day since the ocean wouldn’t have any impacted from the global warming. If you have such thinking, then it is definitely very wrong! The ocean gets its taste of global warming too. Animal living under water had been migrated from one ocean to another due to the heat in the water. Sea level is decreasing every year. I still remember that not long ago, there are news that a bottled nose dolphin (not sure if the spelling is correct or not) had lost its way in one of the beach in Malaysia . It died on the beach as the villagers here do not know what to do with it. From what I know, bottled nose dolphin is not supposed to be here. They couldn’t survive (correct me if I am wrong). What makes these dolphins comes to Malaysia ? No one knows but definitely I believe this has something to do with the ocean conditions. Being the fan of dolphins and orcas, this ne...
Global Warming, Save the Planet - Plastics
Image
Plastics are made from resources that are not environmental friendly, such as petroleum. Although some plastics are recyclable, many are not. It is also very slow to break down to its natural form. We should always opt for glas rather than plastics. Plastic bags litter the landscape. When they are being use, it will end up either into on the roads or rubbish bins. Every year, the use of plastics keep on increasing. As plastics are hard to destroy, this can actually contribute badly to our nature. If they are burn, plastics would pollute the air with toxic fumes. Decomposition of a plastics bags take about 1000 years! Plastic can also cause health problem and is a bigger danger than global warming. Some resources says that plastics is related to cancer disease. There are few types of plastics: Polyvinyl Chloride, Phthalates, Polycarbonate with Bisphenol, Polystyrene, Polyethelyne, Polyester, Urea-formaldehyde, Polyurethane Foam, Acrylic and lastly Tetrafluoro-ethelyne. All these plastic...
Global Warming, Save the Planet - Climate Change
Image
As I mention in my previous blog that I will write one post per week about global warming, this week, I'm going to write my opinion about the climate change. We might thinks that climate is changing, so what. It doesn't impact us at all. We feel more heat but it's okay as there are advance technology called the air-conditioned. Climate and weather is two different thing. Climates are a long term pattern of weather in place while weather conditions can change everyday, every hour and season by season. Example of climate change due to global warming: Earth temperature had risen about 1 degree F in the past 100 years and is going to rise another 3 to 10 degrees in the next 100 years Sea level has risen and is projected to rise much more. There are a lot of consequences due to climate change. This includes: Increases in temperature. Can you imagine if the heat is doubled what we gets now in 20 years time? I believe all of us has been complaining about the heat of the sun lately...
Global Warming, Save the Planet - Say NO to Bottled Water
Image
P/S: I know my post title sounds like "say NO to Smoking" Process of producing plastic bottles I read a very interesting topics from my emails regarding bottled water. Most of us never know the facts of bottle water. All we know is that bottle water is easily to reach. Simply walk into nearby supermarket, we can fill our thirst with one of the bottle water. After that, the bottle is simply throw into the nearet rubbish bins. Let say one bottle cost us RM1.00 (I know there are bottled water which cost only 60 cents). The actual facts that we never know is that the cost of one bottle water is actually more than 1,000 times cost os tap water! Wow, we are actually very 'rich' as we would rather buy water which cost more than 1,000 times the normal water! By consuming bottled water, actually it gives us negative impact in 3 ways. First is of course WASTE MONEY. Secondly, bottle water is always plastic bottle and plastic contains Bisphenol-A (BPA) that can do harm to our bo...
Global Warming, Save the Planet - Save Water
Image
No doubt that water is extremely important in our life. But, wasting them is totally NO NO NO!! Previously, I like to play with water while cleaning my car. I realize that this is very wrong. Imagine 20 years down the road, will I still be able to play with water while cleaning my car? Or can I even clean my car like how I use to do it? Some country is already facing water issue. Not to mention the whole world, even some part of Malaysia is having water issue. Each of us can contribute in minimizing water wastage. As for me, I think this is what we can do in minimizing water wastage: When taking bath, do not fill in your bath tub full with water and lie in it while relaxing. Indeed this is a good way to relax but it is actually wasting a lot of waters. Remember taking shower is better than taking bath (got different oh!) When brushing your teeth, don't let the pipe water flows out into the sink When cleaning your car, try to use pail instead of spraying your car with water In clean...
Global Warming - Save the Planet : Water
Image
As mention in my previous posting, there are few organisation taking part in creating awareness about the impact of global warming and what had happens to our world. One of the organisation that I can remember is Tzu Chi. Apart from some articles and pictures of what happen in the artic, they too creates an idea of what can we do with our rubbish. Amongst them are bags which are created from our milo packaging, chairs from plastic bottle and a lot more. The truth, it takes more than one soul to create the awareness. In a family, for example, if one out of three are aware of the global warming, the whole ideas just goes into the drain. Therefore, educating everyone in the family is a MUST! In supporting the effort made by all related parties, I decided to write a post (1 posting per week, hopefully) about what and how we can participate (as individual as well as in a group) in saving our mother Earth. So, to begin with, this week, I'll be posting about "WATER". As we all k...
Earth Day
Image
As today is the Earth Day, let us together conserve our mother Earth. Earth Day is first launched in 1970, Apr 22. After that, 22nd Apr has been declared as annual events. Whenever I’m driving the car, I could see motorist or even those on foot, throwing plastics on the road. Although we have MBKS or DBKU in Kuching, this doesn’t mean that it is only their responsibility in keeping our city clean and tidy. Maybe we are thinking of taking the opportunity of throwing the garbage since we are being ‘pampered’. Last week, I read in The Borneo Post about the issue of climate change which s eems to effect Kuching as well. Flood is beginning to be very common now. This is one of the sign of global warming. This is serious!! In promoting the Earth Day, there are some events happening in Sibu. On the 25th Apr, there will be a treasure hunt. The contest is open for all with 2 participants in a group. The participant must be age of 7 to 12 (participant 1) and 13 to 17 year old (participan...
