Christmas 2008 Parade @ Kuching, Sarawak

Yeah, I know this posting is a bit too out-dated, but what to do, I keep forgeting to download the photos. On the 20th of December 2008, all churches in Kuching has come together as a group and organized a Christmas Parade around Kuching town.

Along the roadside before the parade starts.. Some knows and is waiting for the parade but some is still blur about what will happen in the next few minutes...

The events starts with some boys carrying the banner...
It is a very fun and memorable event as not everyday we can have parade going around Kuching town. The parade started off at 6pm at Jubilee. Oh ya, on that Saturday, it was actually raining from the moment I wokes up until late evening. Around 5.30pm, some how, the rain had stopped and the sky is clear. Miracle!!! God has bless us all!!
So here are some of the photos from my camera on that day. I didn't join the parade but instead being one of those who keep looking and wondering what is happening. Hahahaha...

I should be ashame of myself for not joining in.. Even small kids taking part in this parade.. Huhuhu....
I'm not sure what time the parade ended. But, at about 11.30pm, rain started to pour again. I guess that is the sign that the parade has end?

Last Sunday is BF day of signing the "Book of Life" (I think that's what they call it). From the time table list, it is known as the "First Confession" day... Well, I translate directly the meaning since it's in BM. Hehehe... We arrived there at around 9am. Not many people there that time but there are people setting up stall to sell some food after the church service. BF told me that he had not had any breakfast yet and I nag him. Whahahaha! I had to sit separately from BF and dad since I'm not the godfather. Church service starts at 9.30pm. While waiting for the mass, I took pictures all around the church . Are they dreaming?? I took some picture when they signed the book. Well, I'm the only photographer that day. One thing different between St. Mark and my church is that during this kind of occasion is that in my church, there will be more than 1 photographers going all round taking photos or filming the whole occasion. Cozy Cafe, Jalan Song

Feeling hungry for something different on lunch time? Another place you can think of will be this restaurant - The Cozy Cafe. It is opposite One TJ with a black signboard. The environment is indeed cozy and warmth. Taste wise not bad but I can say that the service is a little weird. We order tea and they only permitted to give us 2 cup. Hhmmmm, I thought that we can just ask them to refill the pot wit hot water and share the tea amongst us. Guess this is how they earn more - limiting the number of sharing per tea pot. Oh well, got to just follow their rules. And this is what we ordered - sharing portion between a few of us. After all, ladies are small eaters. Mushroom soup with garlic bread Fish and chips Spaghetti Carbonara with hot dogs  Enjoy your lunch yea...

'Ma Li Chai'/'Mani Chai', also known as Cangkuk Manis

While googling for news about 'malichai', it turns out that I hardly get anything that I am looking for, so this triggers me to write something about this local vegetables that I believe, can only be found in Sarawak. 'Mali chai' is easily planted and grow quite fast as well. In fact, this is the only vegetables that I planted and it didn't fail on me! With its stick, just plant it on the ground and leave the rain and sun to takes care of the rest. Hahaha... 'Mali chai' is a word in hokkien that mostly use in Kuching. 'Chai' means vegetables. Hakka people called it 'su choi'. Well, this vege doesn't seems to have an English name. If we are to translate from BM to English, it definitely sounds weird - Sweet Hook. I think anyone who hear 'sweet hook' will not be keen to try it out.. So, how do 'mali chai' looks like? I've snap the photos of this vegetables at my garden.
