Christmas Time, Let's Do Charity

This morning, I read about this article about "Christmas for Payatas". Hhmmm, sound unfamiliar, right? I bet not everyone or maybe all of us never heard about this. I only heard of "nasi goreng pataya" and never came across in my mind that there is a place called Payatas.

Let me elaborate more about this place. It is located in Phillipines, which is known in the world as a Smokey Mountain. For more than 35 years until now, this place has shown to us that not everyone in the world is affordable to sit in front of PC, chatting and enjoying life like us. Here, children as young as 4 years old has been forced to work in order to support all the famillies members. Instead of having some toys to play and laugh, they are force to collect rubbish for sell in order to survive.

Fortunately, there are some charity organisation had taken note of their situation and is trying to help these scavengers as much as possible. Some of the organisation are The Lighthouse Center for Children Foundation, FusionExcel International, Totedaddy.com and many more. Even celebrity such as Ms. Zora Andam, businessman Mr. Paul Ting (CEO of FusionExcel), politician Mr. Sonny Belmonte, Mat Defensor, Cynthia Villar and Sen. Pres. Manny Villar. Even some footballer player such as Ray Parlour (Arsenal) and Lee Sharpe (M.U) has done their parts. What about us?

The organisation has helped in providing the children with foods. Previously, these organisation can help to feed 2000 children per day. This numbers has reduced significantly to 500 children per day. Imaging this facts - there are more than 10,000 children fighting for the meal which can only support 500 children! While us, sitting at our place, eating our meals and some, even waste it by throwing it away!!! Shame on us.

As Christmas time is coming, let us help in supporting this charity by giving some donations or funds to help bringing some cheer to the childrens. Let us help to provide a better shelter for them and together, let's fight against poverty.

Ya Ya, I know some of us will say "No Money". No one will say money is enough. Think about them when you are attempting to waste your lunch or dinner. Think about them when you go shopping and ended spending hundreds of dollar (yet say no money). Think about the facts that there are someone out there hunger for a hot soup to fill their emptiness of their stomach!

And after all this, you still say "No Money", well, I bet it won't cause you a single cent even to spread this news around. If you have any rich friends or family members, spread the news to them. If you know of anyone who is looking for place to do donation, tell them! Do your part for the charity. I remember watching one movie and the old man in the movie says "All good deeds done during Christmas time will be counted double good deeds".

Last Sunday is BF day of signing the "Book of Life" (I think that's what they call it). From the time table list, it is known as the "First Confession" day... Well, I translate directly the meaning since it's in BM. Hehehe... We arrived there at around 9am. Not many people there that time but there are people setting up stall to sell some food after the church service. BF told me that he had not had any breakfast yet and I nag him. Whahahaha! Cozy Cafe, Jalan Song

Feeling hungry for something different on lunch time? Another place you can think of will be this restaurant - The Cozy Cafe. It is opposite One TJ with a black signboard. The environment is indeed cozy and warmth. Taste wise not bad but I can say that the service is a little weird. We order tea and they only permitted to give us 2 cup. Hhmmmm, I thought that we can just ask them to refill the pot wit hot water and share the tea amongst us. Guess this is how they earn more - limiting the number of sharing per tea pot. Oh well, got to just follow their rules. And this is what we ordered - sharing portion between a few of us. After all, ladies are small eaters. 'Ma Li Chai'/'Mani Chai', also known as Cangkuk Manis

While googling for news about 'malichai', it turns out that I hardly get anything that I am looking for, so this triggers me to write something about this local vegetables that I believe, can only be found in Sarawak. 'Mali chai' is easily planted and grow quite fast as well. In fact, this is the only vegetables that I planted and it didn't fail on me! With its stick, just plant it on the ground and leave the rain and sun to takes care of the rest. Hahaha... 'Mali chai' is a word in hokkien that mostly use in Kuching. 'Chai' means vegetables. Hakka people called it 'su choi'. Well, this vege doesn't seems to have an English name. If we are to translate from BM to English, it definitely sounds weird - Sweet Hook. I think anyone who hear 'sweet hook' will not be keen to try it out.. So, how do 'mali chai' looks like? I've snap the photos of this vegetables at my garden.
